SIREN
Read to rebel.
Throughout history, female authors have employed male pseudonyms in attempt to have their work professionally respected. Siren, a coffee table book, explores the intersection of literature and feminism. The heart of Siren lies in promoting the voices of those who were once spoken over.
-
The art direction is inspired by the ideas of voice and being listened to, as well as the competing personal and professional voices of each author. The visual direction is largely informed by the Guerrilla Girls and their examinations of culture and femininity, and is then combined with themes of layered, competing voices.

SIREN’s ad campaign highlights the dueling voices that the book examines. The author presents two voices between their real self and their pseudonym, and both of those voices are in competition with critics. This campaign highlights the tension between female authors and their critics by exposing sexist remarks made by the latter, forcing viewers to confront uncomfortable criticism. The “read to rebel” campaign creates a community of rebels who read to break exclusionary stigmas.
